With the ongoing protest in Oromia and Amhara, that claimed the life of over 100+ people in the past week and the embarrassing incident with the Ethiopian Swimmer Robel (Robel the whale) who finish 59th out of 59 people in a 100-meter freestyle qualifying round and stir worldwide controversy for the alleged nepotism involved in his selection- Ethiopians could have used a nice news to feel at peace.
Friday, August 12, 2016, Almaz Ayana of Ethiopia smashed the world record for 10,000 Meter and win Gold for Ethiopia at 29.17 an improvement of over 12 seconds from previous the previous world record, the first medal the country registered in the Rio Olympics. The Win doesn’t stop there as Tirunesh Dibaba- Ethiopia’s all time favorite also won Bronze for Ethiopia and set the entire country ablaze with happiness.
With the ongoing crises, the people of Ethiopia finally have a good reason to remain hopeful about the fabric of our society.
