120 years ago today, our forefathers did what seemed to be the impossible, winning a battle againest a mighty Italian force and help keep our country free. The victory at Adwa resonates with the Black Community elsewhere in the world and help form various freedom struggles at the time. Powerful movements such as ‘Ethiopianism’ are the result of Adwa.
Many countries In the world celebrate Independence day but that’s not the case In Ethiopia as we only celebrate Victory day.
I have a language and culture that am very proud to have, a country I gladly call home (despite all the ups and downs), a religion that defines me, only because of the sacrifices made by the Ethiopian Heroes and Heroines at Adwa.
Everyone from all corners of the country marched towards a common enemy and did a wonder that astonished the world.

120 years later I wonder if our victory day is seen in the same light across the country. While many in Ethiopia and abroad consider Adwa as a victory of the black againest white people, a victory againest oppression, few elights (who are a product of brainwashed EPRDF propaganda) condemn the victory mainly because of King Minilik II and what they wrongly thought is his hatred towards certain ethnic groups.
They are standing here, without shame, to wrongfully accuse the victory as a meaningless propaganda to celebrate King Minilik II.
History can’t just be manipulated to fit ones agenda. Minilik isn’t a hero because I want him to be but because he rally a whole nation to stand against a much powerful opponent and preserve what I, today, call home.
Your culture, your language and your identity is only kept possible because of his leadership and you owe him a credit just for that.
አድዋ ስለ ንጉስ ምኒልክ ብቻ አይደለም። አድዋ የመላው ጥቁር ህዝብ ድል ነው፣ ኢህአዴግ በርዞ በሰጠን ታሪክ መላው የጥቁር አለምን ያነሳሳውን ብቸኛ የጅግንነት የታሪክ አሻራ ወደ ጎን ገፍትረን የአያቶቻችን አጥንት ላይ አንሳለቅም።
ዛሬ ባህላችን፣ ቋንቋችን እንዲሁም ማንነታችን ሳይበረዝ እዚህ የደረሰው በጀግኖች ብርታት እና ቆራጥነት እንጂ በኛ ምኞት አይደለም።
ምኒልክ ተውልዶ ባያነሳ ጋሻ፣
ግብሩ እንቁላል ነበር ይህን ጊዜ አበሻ። የተባለው ተወዶ አይደለም።
ክብር መስጠት ላለበት ክብር እንስጥ።
